World Environment Day 2025
June 5th is a day set aside for the annual celebration of World Environment Day. This day contributes in raising awareness on environmental issues like marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming, sustainable development, wildlife and encourages action for the protection of the environment.
World Environment Day 2025 focuses on putting an end to plastic pollution under the theme “Beat Plastic pollution”. It brings together millions of people from around the world who have a shared mission to safeguard and restore our planet, empower governments, individuals and communities for sustainable change. Over the years, plastic pollution has been a worrisome issue. From plastics leaching into the water we drink, to the food we eat and our bodies, plastic pollution is a major concern and one of the most fixable environmental challenges.
This day brings to limelight the growing scientific evidence on the impacts of plastic pollution as well as drive momentum to refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink plastic use. In a bit to reduce waste pollution, the environmental department from the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) through its project “We Are cleaning Up Cameroon” takes active part in reshaping communities’ views on waste disposal.
To ensure an attainment of a society free from plastic pollution, this department has been involved in the collection of waste from homes, to offices and businesses. World Environment Day reminds us to make conscious choices as well as develop effective waste management systems.
