ACTING FOR A PEACEFUL WORLD-INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
International Day of Peace 2025
The International Day of Peace, observed globally on September 21st, is a moment to reflect on our collective responsibility to foster harmony, justice, and inclusion. In 2025, the world unites under the powerful theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful World” a call to urgent, unified action to confro
Secretary-General António Guterres reminds us, “Peace does not happen by accident it is built through courage, compromise, and above all, action.” He urges world leaders and citizens alike to silence the guns, elevate diplomacy, and address the root causes of violence: inequality, exclusion, hate speech, and climate change.
CHRDA's Commitment to Peace
On this important day, the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) reaffirms its dedication to promoting peace, democracy, and human rights. Through its work in civic education, community empowerment, institutional support, and legal advocacy, CHRDA plays a crucial role in advancing a society where justice, equality, and peace thrive.
To mark the International Day of Peace, CHRDA is launching a series of youth-focused initiatives that aim to build social cohesion and sustainable peace, particularly in conflict-affected communities.
Among these initiatives is the impactful campaign titled “Letters to the Youth” a platform where young people write open letters to their peers, urging them to refrain from engaging in violence, hate, drug abuse, tribalism, discrimination, and other social ills that undermine peace.
These letters serve as:
- Messages of hope and responsibility,
- Tools for peer-to-peer awareness,
- And a call to collective youth action in building peaceful communities.
Through their words, young people become ambassadors of peace, reminding each other that the future belongs to those who protect it.
CHRDA encourages schools, youth groups, civil society, and other stakeholders to take part in this commemoration through:
- Peacebuilding workshops and dialogues,
- Community outreach activities,
- Social media campaigns,
- And participation in the “Letters to the Youth” movement.
Together, let us ACT NOW to build a world where human rights, democracy, and peace are not just ideals, but realities for all.
"Let’s unite to build a peaceful world where human rights and democracy thrive."
nt rising conflicts, protect civilians, and promote lasting peace.
